Drawing Aware
Creative Mind Retreat
with Jude Spacks
What is this?
A Course in Consciousness
Time to sit with yourself
and look within and without
resting, playing, exploring vision
with the clear, wise-love eyes
that your Creative Mind shines through
An experiment in attention training
A sabath, a beginning, a return
Also: a drawing class
We'll meet for 8 Sundays
from 1-2pm EST
June-August 2020
by audio conference call
(recordings will be available)
No screen to look at,
so your eyes will be on your local 3D world
and you can enjoy visual privacy from others
as we explore together-alone
What We'll Do
|
As you listen to the call on a hands-free phone,
|
(Maybe you'll just let the call point you
towards a comfortable-in-your-own-skin feeling
as you drift off into a nap--a fine way to participate)
That's the idea, anyway. We don't know yet what will happen!
Possibilities:
Learn always-new fundamental skills of drawing
Invite fresh insight/outsight
Practice Presence and Self-Inquiry
Release defensive patterns of thought
Attune to the wisdom and innocence of your Creative Mind
Fall deeper in love with the Seer who looks through your eyes
"If you live in awareness, everything is a miracle." — Thich Nhat Hanh
The Drawing Aware Retreat is for people with the courage of curiosity about their Creative Mind, that source of inspiration already available to everyone.
Our practice will include principles learned from a well-tested, hands-on introduction to representational drawing that I've taught to groups from elementary students to elders at Senior College.
We'll also be using written, sensory and meditative explorations to attune to the ordinary wisdom, freedom and presence of the Beholder--an experiment in spiritual self-inquiry.
Those with little or no experience in realistic drawing will find clear, kind pointers for basics. Those already skilled in representational art can renew and refresh their work. Writers, dancers, musicians, gardeners, cooks, etc. may adapt exercises to their interests. All prompts and suggestions will be offered in the spirit of take-what-you-like-and-leave-the-rest.

Affording
I'm experimenting with finding flexible, sustainable ways to support this emerging work. For now, I'll be asking you to pay an amount that feels good to you.
Tuition is $250 for this 3 month program. If you need/want a partial or full scholarship, or if you'd like to contribute later, thank you for taking part and for donating what feels right for you. And if you can give more to help keep this group financially accessible, thank you for that, too. No explanation necessary for whatever you decide to contribute. After you register, I'll send you a welcome email with further details.

By Person-to-Person Invitation Only
You're warmly invited to join this introvert's private party. And if you'd like to share this experience with one or a few friends, feel free to invite them with a personal note and a link to this page--no public posting on social media, thank you.
"See the world as your self."--Tao Te Ching
Why do humans make art that reflects on the world? For me, a sense of sacred connection, of engagement and flow comes with humbly showing up to make marks on a page about what I see--even if I don't like the results.
Drawing from reality can become a profound, playful form of loving attention, a gift to yourself from the Mystery that supports all creation. |
